Everyone can relate to family and history. My father had a love and passion for both.
I remember the excitement and twinkle in Dad’s eye when describing an important historic event that occurred just around the corner from where we lived.
I remember our family customs on holidays, birthdays, and summer vacations. I remember traditional Sunday drives, picnics, snow igloos, backyard football games and Easter egg hunts. Funny how you don't appreciate those things until you get older. How I wish he were here with me today, so we could experience those memories again.
The Shenandoah Valley was, and is, a wonderful place to grow up and live. It would have been Dad's dream that everyone have the chance to see and appreciate her beauty, rich history and unique heritage, just as we did, and still do!
The Cross Keys/Goods Mill Historical Society has established "Dad's Dream", a fund specifically designated for producing educational pieces that will aid in the preservation and documentation of such treasures. ‘Dad’ represents any one of us who cherishes their valley heritage, appreciates her rich history and wants to see that these stories and sites are preserved for future generations to enjoy.
We are currently working on two projects, as described below. If you are interested in learning more about "Dad's Dream", feel free to email the society at n134h@aol.com. |
